This Sickens Me

Hold onto your hats boys and girls…we’re going back to the days of back-alley abortions. South Dakota governor, Mike Rounds just signed an aborion ban into law. I am all for a child living to see the light of day…but a line has to be drawn…and Roe vs. Wade was it. To overthrow it spells disaster.

PIERRE, S.D. - Gov. Mike Rounds signed legislation Monday banning nearly all abortions in South Dakota, setting up a court fight aimed at challenging the 1973 U.S. Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion.

The bill would make it a crime for doctors to perform an abortion unless the procedure was necessary to save the woman’s life. It would make no exception for cases of rape or incest.

Planned Parenthood, which operates the state’s only abortion clinic, in Sioux Falls, has pledged to challenge the measure.

Rounds issued a written statement saying he expects the law will be tied up in court for years and will not take effect unless the U.S. Supreme Court upholds it.

“In the history of the world, the true test of a civilization is how well people treat the most vulnerable and most helpless in their society. The sponsors and supporters of this bill believe that abortion is wrong because unborn children are the most vulnerable and most helpless persons in our society. I agree with them,” Rounds said in the statement.

The governor declined all media requests for interviews Monday.

Washington at Fault?

Seems like Washington was aware that the levees in New Orleans needed upgrading…but decided to hold its proverbial breath and put the funding elsewhere. And now we have a disaster of massive proportions, that could have partly been avoided had the governement paid attention to warnings about the flood system. Shame on you, Washington!

WASHINGTON — For years, Washington had been warned that doom lurked just beyond the levees. And for years, the White House and Congress had dickered over how much money to put into shoring up century-old dikes and carrying out newer flood control projects to protect the city of New Orleans.

As recently as three months ago, the alarms were sounding — and being brushed aside.

In late May, the New Orleans district of the Army Corps of Engineers formally notified Washington that hurricane storm surges could knock out two of the big pumping stations that must operate night and day even under normal conditions to keep the city dry.

Also, the Corps said, several levees had settled and would soon need to be raised. And it reminded Washington that an ambitious flood-control study proposed four years before remained just that — a written proposal never put into action for lack of funding.

What a powerful hurricane could do to New Orleans and the area’s critical transportation, energy and petrochemical facilities had been well understood. So now, nearly a week into the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina, hard questions are being raised about Washington officials who crossed their fingers and counted on luck once too often. The reasons the city’s defenses were not strengthened enough to handle such a storm are deeply rooted in the politics and bureaucracy of Washington.

With the advantage of hindsight, the miscues seem even broader. Construction proposals were often underfunded or not completed. Washington officials could never agree on how much money would be needed to protect New Orleans. And there hung in the air a false sense of security that a storm like Katrina was a long shot anyway.

As a result, when the immediate crisis eases and inquiries into what went wrong begin, there is likely to be responsibility and blame enough for almost every institution in Washington, including the White House, Congress, the Army Corps of Engineers and a host of other federal agencies.

Keep Roberts Out of the Supreme Court!

John Roberts is not one to be appointed to the empty Supreme Court seat. If positioned to the seat, Roberts will work hard to overturn Roe vs. Wade, as he has stated that it was wrongly decided.
I personally disagree with abortion except in extreme cases, but a woman should always have the right to choose. If Roe vs. Wade is oveturned, we will go back to back-alley abortions that will put women’s lives in danger.

Religion and Politics?

It may seem like Sen. Bill Frist has found religion in recent weeks. At least, that’s what critics say about the Senate majority leader’s recent alignment with social conservative groups on high-profile issues.
Their charge is that Frist is playing to religious groups to gather support for political issues — and potentially for a future presidential race.

Gaddy said he is concerned about “the transition from religion as a source of values and wisdom, to religion as a strategy for passing legislation or winning an election.”
“I don’t judge people’s motives,” he said. “If Sen. Frist sees this as an essential step in launching a presidential campaign, he’s more involved in a stumble than a step.”

My 2¢? Religion should stay completly seperate from politics. Things just get too screwed up when you mix the two.

Scores: 16% Dogmatic, 55% Mystical, and 38% Esoteric!

DOGMATIC:
Higher dogmatic scores indicate a highly principled person who believes in living life correctly based on the teachings of scriptures, teachers, or prophets. Higher dogmatic scores also reveal a person who believes that there is only one right path to salvation or enlightenment. Dogmatic types are often in deep reverence for their faith.

MYSTICAL:
Higher mystical scores indicate a person who makes sense of the world around them through their own self. Spiritual enlightenment for a mystical type involves polishing one’s own heart, mind, and body. Mystical prayers are often ecstatic, involving singing, dancing, music, or poetry. Mystical types can frequently seem perplexing and impulsive.

ESOTERIC:
Higher esoteric scores indicate a person who lives life by the principles set forth by more dogmatic traditions while, at the same time, also living life by the mystic’s tendency to translate the world around them into themselves. Esoteric types rely heavily upon symbol and meditation for answers to their questions. Quite possibly the most distinctively secretive type, esoteric people guard their mysteries well–keeping those who are not ready for enlightenment away from powerful ideas and beliefs.

Womens Rights??

Link to Article

Imagine the following scenario. You are at home alone at 8:00 on a Friday night. You are 8 weeks pregnant. All of a sudden, you begin to experience heavy cramping and bleeding. You realize with shock and sadness that you are probably experiencing a miscarriage. You are overwhelmed with grief and surprised by the intensity of physical pain involved. When your partner comes home, you break the sad news to him. Over the next few hours, you suffer pain, cramping, and intermittent bleeding. Exhausted, you finally fall asleep in your partner’s arms around 4 AM. You sleep until noon.

Guess what? You just earned yourself up to 12 months in jail and a $2,500 fine. Why? Because you failed to call the cops and report your miscarriage within 12 hours.

True? Not yet. But if Delegate John Cosgrove (R-78) has his way, HB1677 will become law in a few short months, and this scenario will be reality for many women in Virginia. Incredulous? Outraged? Click the link above for more information on this odious bill.

Can you imagine that?? I cannot imagine what Virgina women must be thinking…or how many even know. I’m mad and I don’t even live close to Virgina!
How can someone make a woman, in the middle of her grief of just losing her baby, call the police and report that she had a miscarrige??? And if you read the article, there are dozens of questions they ask…some a woman may not even have an answer to, if she isn’t very far along in her pregnancy. Women who have abortions have less questions to answer, but a woman who just lost someone so precious to them practically gets the 3rd degree…for what?? The information collected isn’t being used for any medical purposes and health care providers even state that there is no benifit to medical science since the information is being reported to the police. Hence…why is this delgate so intent on invading a greiving woman’s privacy?? Well, of course he says he isn’t…that’s not the “intent” of his bill. He states that his bill is an attept to reduce the number of babies born and then abandoned, otherwise known as “trashcan babies”. Well that’s all fine and dandy…but he’s not targeting women in later pregnancy. His bill is for any miscarriage to be reported at any gestational age….within 12 hours. Doctors have 24 hours to report a miscarriage of a patient. But yet a woman not in a doctor’s care has only 12 hours! How is that right??

This bill outrages me as a woman and as a woman who has gone through a miscarriage a few years ago. I know from personal experience the pain that is felt…both physically and emotionally. Believe me, a woman is not ready to talk to police about such an emotional matter only 12 hours after it happened. It’s a tramatic event in itself, which should not be compounded by such insensitivity as this bill proposes.
Near the bottom of the article are listed a few ways you can help. Please look into it and if nothing else, pass this article around to those you know. Every woman should be aware of this law Virgina is trying to pass. If it passes, other states may follow suit….and there’s the start to a downfall in our reproductive laws.

(By the way…I’m Pro-Life, but this has been taken too far.)
